Western and Central Ukraine have become officially safer, including for medical tourism ― U.S. Department of State opinion

    The U.S. Department of State has updated its recommendations for US residents to visit Ukraine: the risk level for nine regions of the country has now been reduced.

    The U.S. Department of State stresses that the reduction of the risk level (from the fourth ― ‘do not travel’ to the third ― ‘consider your travel’) in some regions became possible due to the reliable air defence system and remoteness from the front line. Such regions included the following oblasts:

    • Volynskaya;
    • Lvovskaya;
    • Zararpatskaya;
    • Ivano-Frankovskaya;
    • Chernovitskaya;
    • Ternopolskaya;
    • Rovenskaya;
    • Khmelnitskaya;
    • Zhytomirskaya.

    The U.S. Department of State emphasises in its communication that U.S. citizens are advised to monitor government, local and international media reports to be informed of changes in security conditions and to receive timely warnings to proceed to a shelter at their place of residence. A safe stay in Ukraine is still not guaranteed.

    The U.S. Department of State emphasises in its communication that the unprovoked full-scale invasion of Ukraine by Russian forces continues, and even areas far from the front line may be subject to Russian missile and drone attacks.

    Travellers should not ignore air alerts: when they are activated, it is essential to find shelter and stay there until the air alert ends.

    Earlier, in June 2022, the US government urged the country's residents not to visit Ukraine after information emerged about the capture of two American citizens by Russian troops.
